Not a show about
quick fixes.

Uncommon Fire speaks to women of Caribbean heritage wherever life has taken them. Whether you are on island or in the diaspora, whether you were born into the culture or grew up carrying it across borders, this show was made with you in mind. It speaks to the professional navigating firsts in her family, the mother holding everything together, and the woman who refuses to lose herself in the process.

Each conversation is a place to breathe, to be honest with yourself, and to feel seen. Warm, grounded, and unapologetically Caribbean.

She comes in carrying the weight. She leaves feeling seen, honest with herself, and ready to keep going.

Not glossy transformation. Not performed resilience. Not another show that tells you how strong you are without sitting with you in the hard parts. This is companionship through the real thing.

01

The Single Mother

Carrying the household financially, emotionally, logistically. Often alone, often pretending you have it together. This is your space.

02

The Mother Feeling Alone

There is a partner in the house but the weight still falls on you. Present but absent. We are going to name that, honestly and without judgement.

03

The First-Generation Professional

Building things your family never had a map for. Career, property, investment, therapy. Figuring it out in real time, often without a guide.

Coming Soon

Ten episodes. Three phases. One goal: to make you feel seen and give you something real to hold on to.

01

Where I am right now: an honest look in the mirror

The show opens not with an introduction but with a reckoning. Gratitude for the journey. Honesty about what is working and what is not. The emergency fund challenge launches here.

Listener action: write three things you have done right and set your first financial goal

02

The load we carry: what the mental load actually costs us

A conversation with a Caribbean woman who has lived it. Naming what is real, what it costs, and what it looks like to begin putting some of it down.

Listener action: name one thing you are carrying that is not yours to carry alone

03

Check in: where are we, no judgement

Two weeks in. An honest progress report on the goal set in episode one. The point is not perfection. It is continuation.

Listener action: report your progress, even if the number is zero

04

Rent or mortgage: the conversation nobody in our family had

A financial professional joins to break down one of the most loaded decisions Caribbean families face. Real numbers. No jargon. No pressure.

Listener action: calculate what you pay in rent against what a mortgage would cost in your area

05

Choosing a school: when your budget and your ambitions do not match

The pressure Caribbean parents feel around education, named honestly. What are we actually choosing when we choose a school?

Listener action: write what you actually want for your child's education, not what you think you should want

06

Emergency fund check-in: insurance as an act of love

Second check-in on the season goal, woven into a conversation about protection as an act of love. Life insurance, health coverage, and what it means to leave your children something other than debt.

Listener action: find out if you have life insurance. If not, find out what the first step costs

07

How we were loved: and what we are passing on without meaning to

How did your parents show love? What did silence mean in your home? What are you replicating and what are you breaking? A Caribbean therapist joins to illuminate, not diagnose. This episode will be shared.

Listener action: tell your child one specific thing you love about them this week

08

The partner problem: present but absent, and what to do about it

The woman who feels like a single mother even though there is a man in the house. Naming what too many women are living without language for. No vilifying, no victimhood. Just honest examination of what partnership actually requires.

Listener action: name one conversation you have been avoiding with your partner or co-parent

09

Your health is not a luxury: what we keep deprioritising and why it matters

A Caribbean medical professional joins to talk about what first-generation professional women specifically neglect. Preventive care, mental health, chronic stress. The conversation connects physical health directly to the family's stability.

Listener action: book one health appointment you have been putting off

10

Ten weeks in: what we built, what we learned, what we carry forward

The season's closing breath. Final emergency fund check-in. Honest reflection on ten weeks of conversation. Not a celebration. A resting point before the next climb. Sets up season two without announcing it.

Listener action: share where your goal stands and name one thing you are taking into the next season

Glendora Lashley

Host, Uncommon Fire

Glendora Lashley was born in Trinidad and spent her formative years between two islands, schooled in Tobago from the age of six and rooted there for most of her life. She knows what it means to exist in a place without being of it. To be different from what is common. To look at what everyone else accepts and quietly decide to go another way.

Now based in Trinidad, Glendora has spent her life building things that did not exist before she built them, asking the questions people were walking past, and choosing the unfamiliar when the familiar simply was not enough.

She is a mother, a daughter, a woman with responsibilities she takes seriously and roles she shows up for fully. Uncommon Fire was born from the belief that none of those roles require her to disappear inside them.
